Cooking Attempt - Part I

Morning marketing with mum - rice, carrot, spring onions, chicken, pork "bones"? (for boiling soup), garlic, ..

"Anything else to buy?" How about fish? It's really healthy. "

3 slices of fish for $16, 1 whole chicken, $6.80, carrots, rice, ketchup, spring onions and preserved vegetable for less than $10. The pork bones, hmm.. think around $6..... Total damage, less than $35

This will be the meal for 8 adults. Considering that we used to have to spend an average of $8 per pax for our regular weekend meals, this is definitely, more healthy and more cost efficient!

What with the increase of 20% for electrical bills, more ERP gantries, increase in cost of groceries, etc, it's really getting so costly to eat out. Adding on to the tiring act of always having to think of what to have for dinner and the bugging worry of someone's health, I'm pushing myself to finally befriend the culinary world :P

It's funny that a decade ago, I would never think of marketing with mum on a precious weekend. Just weeks ago, I would never think that spending hours to prepare for a meal is worth my time.

That day, I put aside everything and without any slight hint of grudges, "basked" in the simmering heat of the kitchen, working hard to prepare a meal for the family.

It's a pity that I was too tired to take a picture of my work. However, I decided not to, cos the main work was still accomplished by my enthusiastic mum who had already cut and sliced all the ingredients, and garnishes for the food, who also braved through the splattering wok to fry the fish. :P Before that, I was still begging her to use only her "mouth" to order me about. But the daunting task of frying the fish completely distracted me, leaving me standing timidly by the side, while taking on a more "passive" role of cooking!

Ultimately, the encouraging words from my family made everything worth it. Although, most of us were hungry by 11pm, for supper! hahaha...

Three Cheers To My First Attempt Of Cooking A Complete Meal!
