Porridge on A Cold Sunday

Dad is down with cough today. Taking this opportunity, we declare to have porridge for the day.
This time round, mum got what I needed. Instead of fussing over me to use her wok (that I really hate to use, cos there's no plastic handles. While using it the week before, I ended up burning my brand new, white golves. :( )

Since it's also drizzling, we didn't want to go for last minute shopping. We decided to rummage through my fridge and cupboard and see what we can cook.

Good thing, I still have my caixin which I bought, last week (! :p). A slide of fish that mum left behind, last week too (!!). Though we had chicken, we decided to remove that from the list since dad is coughing. There's preserved cabbage. Then, a can of soup but which didn't go well with the porridge. Nonetheless, helpful in filling our stomach for the day. Although, I have to admit that I'm getting a little hungry now, as I typed this story :P.

We had an unexpected dish as well. Kel called dad to help buy a pack of 米 (rice),and dad ended up buying a pack of mee (noodle)! lol And since mum doesn't really like porridge, the noodle went to her. =D

I was really scared of the splattering oil and I needed her help as she held on to the handle of the wok, while I had my hands full - one holding on to the cover as a shield, and another struggling with the ladle to flip the fish.

Tasting the food, I enjoy the peace of eating without the noise from the crowded food court. I enjoyed the pleasure of having a meal with my parents, in my very home. And, the fact that the food is cheaper and healthier compared to eating outside!

However, nothing beats hearing my mum's loud announcement that all the food is prepared by me! Definitely very proud of myself. :P

After all the hard days at work, and long hours behind the computers even back home, few hours of quality time with love ones makes everything worth it!
